Description
The Holmstad retirement community is hosting a series of outdoor evening musical performances as part of its new Summer Concert Series, beginning Tuesday, June 28, 2016. The Holmstad, a faith-based, continuing care retirement community, is located at 700 W. Fabyan Parkway, Batavia. The Summer Concert Series is free, open to the public and includes performances by some of Chicago’s favorite talent, including: The Fox Valley Concert Band, on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. The band is comprised of 80 volunteer musicians under the baton of conductor Colin Holman. The band has been a favorite among Fox River Valley music aficionados since it was founded in 1983. The band’s musical fare includes marches, show tunes and some light classical works. The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra, on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 7 p.m. The orchestra faithfully creates the distinctive sound developed by Glenn Miller and continues to play many of the original Miller arrangements from both the civilian and military band libraries. It also plays modern selections arranged and performed in the Miller style and sound. As it was in the ’40s, “Moonlight Serenade” is still the signature tune of the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Ann Stewart and the Banjo Buddies Dixieland Band, on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016 at 7 p.m. This high-energy Dixieland band is led by Diva of Dixieland Ann Stewart. The group plays everything from Dixieland jazz to swing, blues, big band tunes, and novelty tunes from the 1920s through the 1950s. Space is limited.
